Title: Happy belated Father's Day
Post by: Ed on June 17, 2007, 07:00:02 PM
Yep, happy belated Father's Day to all the dads out there :afro: I got a couple of T-shirts, a Homer Simpson cake and twenty bottles of Budweiser (sp?), did a few chores, had a big old fried breakfast with black pudding, actually got to sit down and write a bit this afternoon, so all in all, not a bad day

How was yours?

I went on a 40 miles sunny bike ride from 7am and arrived back at 9:30 before my wife had woken up  :cheesy:

A lazy day after that. One of my US pals emailed to say he mentioned my ARIA book to a pal who bought it there and then on his Kindle - amazing how word of mouth works. I just need another mouth like that and I'll have doubled Kindle sales this month!

Daughter bought me Ursula leGuin's collection of short stories - The Winds 12 Quarters, and son bought me a Bellini opera I wanted and Christopher Priest's A Dream of Wessex ever since a girl in our book group said it is the best book she's ever read - but then she's not read mine ;)

Get down to some writing this evening.

Oh and I had fun today creating a self-referential blog. It references my recent tweets one of which referenced that same blog piece.
You can find it at http://geoffnelder.wordpress.com/2013/06/16/twitter-ye-may/

Wow, was that really six years ago?

Hi LotD :afro:

My kids made a bit of effort this time, but I have a feeling my wife orchestrated it. She went off with some friends for the weekend and left them with gifts to present. I roasted a chicken for the evening meal and then sat there like a saddo and ate on my own. Both sons decided to have tea at their friends' ::)

Nevermind - I didn't even know it was Father's Day until I got a card from each of them.

Bought my dad a few beers and sat down and watched some motorbike racing with him. It was good.

Thirty years ago, Dad made me a viola da gamba at evening classes. Took him five years. Dad's no longer around, but the gamba is, so I've had it out every day since Father's day and have been reminding myself what a fabulous instrument it is.

Thanks Dad.  :afro:

Broke tradition this year and bought each of my kids a book, and I bought their mother a new set of frying pans. Planned on getting her a book as well, but she's been complaining about the worn off non-stick for a year or so now, so I thought she'd appreciate them more than the new Harlan Coben novel. Got my dad a rack for his bike. He peddled over and we started putting up the outside walls of the raised tree-fort we're building in my back yard. It's an amazing thing, I think. While technically not a tree-fort, it is raised 9' in the air amongst the most densely treed area of our yard. Main room is near 8' x 12', ceiling is set at 7', so I can stand up in it no problem, and there's a second-story sleeping loft. Finishing it to look like a redwood cabin. I suspect it'll be as much a retreat for me as it will be for my kids.

Happy late Fathers day all you dads.
