Title: Meh...wimmin....
Post by: Ed on January 06, 2005, 08:29:27 PM
This was in the paper today, and all us men had a good laugh at it :azn:

Quote
Women who over-react to remarks about their body shape are only doing what comes naturally, a study has found.

Psychiatrists have located the part of the brain that 'lights up' when a woman's weight and size are under scrutiny.
They say it is the same area responsible for anger and fear - which could explain why women tend to take personal remarks so...personally.
The study suggests that they are born to be sensitive about their body image, while men are more rational

Words such as 'fat', 'overweight', and 'heavy' have an immediate effect on the area of a woman's brain programmed to take action over threats and emotionally negative experiences.

Such words have a different effect on men, triggering the part of the brain that deals with rational thought and problem solving. :afro:

Muahahahaaaa! :fugly:

Let battle commence ;)

Finally, some research I agree with  :afro:

Have you ever stopped to think that this female method of responding to threats may be more sound than the way men are programmed to respond? If negative comments trigger fear... is it not possible that women may then find a way to improve on their shortcomings? Men, on the other hand, get all rational and just sit back and say things like "Well, it's just the way I am." [scratch, belch, fart]

Food for thought.  :cheesy:

Nope, it just sounds like an irrational argument to me :fugly:  Don't worry though - apparently you're just responding to your programming ;)

See, women just get angry, fearful and tearful - then hit the cakes and go on a binge to make themselves feel better, whereas men figure out what they're going to do about it...if anything, because they know there's a good chance the woman is just being irrational again, and they're lookin gooood, despite what their other half's telling them

Simply, emotions are a double edged sword, too much and you'll suffer, too little and you'll suffer.

Since I have time today, maybe I can stir up some shit myself. IF there is indeed a part of the brain that responds negatively to INSULTS (doesn't seem so wierd) then I guess the actual physical response might be dictated by culture as well.  I'm from the "hood," as we say down here and we are programmed to respond to insults and threats with violence or threats of violence--which is the healthiest way, I know.

Like the time the guy who  called me a "stupid bitch" got sent across the room with a kick to the head...
I haven't actually had anyone call me fat, come to think of it. :/

I tried to spread the gospel in college to my middle- class girlfriends. It's hard, though. This world needs some more ass-kickin' :afro:

Say,  Canadian. Is that your REAL picture? It's kinda hot. :)

That would be my real picture, kimbly, if my name was Denise Richards. [sigh] I'm just slightly less hot ...  :laughin:

Good to know we've got another tough babe on board. Need reinforcements from time to time with these guys ...  :hidin:

Well I suppose I should point out a few things.

Kicking in a fight is like wearing lingerie.  It looks real good, but when it boils down to just leaves you open ;)

Also I suppose I could out some fruedian thing about a high kick exposing your womanliness, but I guess I will leave that be

Well I dont know if that stirs up the pot at all.

Me?  I am a lover not a fighter.  If a woman wnats to fight with me?  I regale her  with poetry and candies.  Speak sotthing sweetness in her ear, until the night dissolves into a tangle of limbs, sweat and bedsheets.

Then I move and change my phone number ;)

Thats what I call revenge!!!

BTW... has anybody ever had make up sex?  I do not know if I am just weird, but fighting does not "put me in the mood."  Also doing the "one more time before we split up" thing never worked for me either.  Usually when it comes time to split up, the sex has been bad anyway.

I have a saying, Neuro ... ex-lovers are like warmed up leftovers; not quite as good the second time around.  :P

Make-up sex, huh? :o  A touch of rouge, some mascara, eyeshadow and the oh so gauche lipstick for you then, Neuro

Ewww, this place is getting weirder by the second :/  When I was envisaging a horror theme, I was hoping for more of an Edgar Allen Poe thing than Richard O'Brian

As for high-kicking women revealing their womanliness, I think I would probably stand there agog until beaten unconscious :afro: no problemo :azn:

Men, know your place.

Open our jars, get things from high up on cupboards and hope and pray we don't find a way to  open our own jars and get things from high up on cupboards.

You can offend women on many levels and offend men with one word- inadequiate, I had to ask my husband to spell that, god bless him.

Yeah, I know we'll be in big trouble the day some idiot invents a vibrating cosh with an attachment that opens jam jars - but only if you can figure out how to work it :fugly:

You'll cuss and bicker that it's not true, but if you haven't figured out the concept of using stepladders for getting stuff down off high cupboards yet.... :afro:  (and dikshunrees) heheh :azn:
