Seriously weird, Robert. Muse, yes. Snoop Dogg, okay. Dixyland, why not. But Depeche Mode? Urrgghh.

Early Depeche Mode like "People are People" and "Just Can't get Enough" is a bit too poppy for my liking, but they had a hell of a run through the latter 80's and the early 90's.  I didn't get into them until about 5 or 6 years ago.

Then again, only three months ago I would have said Urrrgghh about Snoop Dogg.

Look for my debut novel THROUGH THE IN BETWEEN, HELL AWAITS in 2012 from Grand Mal Press.

so far this week it has been:

THE DRONES, CELEBRITY SKIN, GUN CLUB, DEADSY and more damned WARREN ZEVON.
"If I Could Save the World, I Wouldn't Bother..."

I've been filling my ears with a German jazz band called Bohren und der Club of Gore, who I may or may not have mentioned before - midnight jazz, very atmospheric stuff.  But then to tip the scales in the other direction I've also been stuffing my lugholes with Unsane, an American noiserock band.  Shouty and evil, mm mmm!

I know my taste in music is out of whack with most people on this forum, but I really like this one -- great feel to it. Summery and cheery. Almost reminds me of what it was like to be a teenager :afro:

Also like this one a lot, but for different reasons:

Cee Lo's got a great voice, hasn't he? Loved him in Gnarls Barkley. Who's the other one (I'm really ignorant)?

I spent all night last night talking about and listening to music with a friend and among other things I rediscovered my love for pirate metal. I've never really been a fan of metal but I feel a kick coming on. If you are at all interested in fast music I highly recommend checking out the following bands:

Alestorm http://www.amazon.com/Captain-Morgans-Revenge-Alestorm/dp/B000ZOSMZG/ref=pd_bxgy_m_img_b

Swashbuckle  http://www.amazon.com/Crewed-Damned-Swashbuckle/dp/B000JMJY4M/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1289981671&sr=1-3

Tyr - i think they are technically viking metal, but still good and similar http://www.amazon.com/Light-Northern-Star-Tyr/dp/B0021UDJN2/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1289981438&sr=8-5

Korpiklaani http://www.amazon.com/Karkelo-Korpiklaani/dp/B0027GZBYU/ref=pd_sim_m_11

I only briefly checked it out, but the new GWAR album seems to have potential.

Not so much a recommendation as a side note, but there's a band called cannabis corpse who exist to make pot related puns of cannibal corpse material. They sound about the same, but the puns are awesome.

Before this I was on a 50's futurist kick.

He calls himself Dangermouse. I think there's great humour in some of their stuff, and like you say, Cee Lo has a great voice, full of soul.

Ah, I knew THAT. Everyone knows THAT :)  I meant the other video (which probably shows me up as even more ignorant ...)

ah, her name is Alexis Jordan -- I think she must still be very young -- maybe 16 or 17. Discovered on America's got Talent.

Ah, thanks. There's a natural, innocent quality to her. Although the video concept is blatantly nicked off Jamiroquai.

Oooohhh! VIKINGS!

They actually sound pretty good, and I liked the samples I listened to of both Tyr and Korpiklaani. If you like them, you'll probably like Rammstein as well.

Didn't care for Alestorm and Swashbuckle quite as much, but one or two of the samples sounded OK.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Yep, she certainly has that quality to her. It's nice to see the music industry hasn't forced her into slutty outfits and tried to make her into something she isn't, yet. I'm guessing that's because she's under eighteen years of age. Note she doesn't kiss the boy in the video, or drape herself over him -- there's nothing overtly sexual in the vid, which is quite refreshing to see, I think. Sadly, I reckon that'll probably change in the next few years, but some stars manage to make it through without stripping off. Maybe she'll be one of them.

This is her on America's got talent, aged 14: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FW6YSUFAjKU&feature=related

I haven't the slightest idea who most of these bands are.

I've been on an old school punk kick lately. Ramones, Black Flag, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, All, Bad Religion, Suicidal Tendencies, etc. Reminiscing, remembering what it was like when I was young, OH so many years ago.
