Not sure why it's different this year, though an off-kilter work/life balance is definitely part of it. It kind of feels like there's so much to do already (just to keep up with life), that I don't have time to dream up the madness that goes into a kick-ass Halloween. We are slowing up a but at work though, so I'm aiming to take a couple days off shortly. Trying my hand a building a pneumatic lunging spider this year. Shame you don't live closer, Jerry -- I've got four 4' air rams sat in my garage with switch gear and hoses, etc., you could have had and put to good use :afro:

Hey folks! I thought it was about time I got back on here and caught up with everybody :)

On the subject of Halloween, I got to experience my very first American one this year - my missus lives in Austin and I spent October with her. There were some suitably impressive garden displays, including a zombie Grateful Dead one and another that had a ton of skeleton pirates. We only had four lots of trick or treaters call by our house, though, which was a bit disappointing.

What's everyone up to this Christmas? I'm with my folks in Queensland this year. It is far, far too hot. The plus side to the heat making me want to stay indoors is it's making me feellike using that time constructively to write :D

Morning, Rev - good to see you back here again  :afro:

Christmas is going to be slightly different this year, because we have loads of family descending and staying on every day except Christmas day, so me and hubby are going to push the boat out and have beans on toast with all the trimmings (ie Worcester Sauce and grated cheese) just because we can  :grin:

We were booked to go to Sharm El Sheik again at Christmas -- I'm addicted to that blast of sunshine in the depths of winter. But with the security situation in Egypt worstening to the point where ISIS have now brought down a passenger jet, we felt less keen. Nevertheless Thomas Cook, our tour operator, decided they were going to start flying again on 15th December, so we had no choice but to go or lose our money. Then last weekend they suddenly changed policy and cancelled all hols until the middle of Jan. The only hols left were really expensive ones to the Caribbean and places like that, which we can't afford, or the Canary Isles, where the weather isn't guaranteed to be good. A friend of mine went there one year in Jan and it rained the whole time he was there.

So anyway, we're off to the Canaries and praying for good weather. I'm not looking forward to it as much as Sharm, which is paradise, but at least we won't be ending our holiday spread over the Sinai Desert in clumps of burning wreckage, which is always a bonus.

Queensland sounds good, Rev. I still get a lift if it's warm and sunny outside, even if I don't go out in it :afro: Have fun

Yeah, you get to the point where all that rich food leaves you wanting something normal. I hope you enjoy it Delph :afro:

I'm not a big fan of Christmas, I must admit. I'm doing my usual thing of driving people about and trying to keep everyone happy. Looking forward to a few lie-ins once the day itself is done and dusted. My commute sees me up early and driving through the darkness both ends of the day for a few hours, so a chance to watch the sun rise from the comfort of a bed is very enticing.

In other news Robert Hale Ltd, who have published my westerns, have sold up to another company and there's no knowing if the new owners will retain the western imprint. I've got one ready to submit, too. Not sure whether I've missed the boat or not, but I will submit it anyway.

Hello, glad to hear your still around. I guess I should reintroduce myself. I joined in 2008 but had to quit writing shortly after joining to have a baby and rehab my husband. My daughter is in school and I have a blessed two hours a day to myself. I want to restart my writing and hope I can finally be active here. Just a little background on me my name is Dianna and Mooncalled is the title of a Patricia Briggs novel that I LOVED. I live in Oklahoma USA.

Looks like the British Western Fiction world continues as normal - just with a different publisher. Just had an acceptance from Crowood Press who have bought out Robert Hale Ltd. So one day in about a year's time my fifth Western: "Dead Man's Eyes" will hit a library near you  :-))
