I did. I knew nothing whatsoever about it, until my wife asked me if I'd set my watch back an hour this morning. The country had fallen back without me and I was, and still am, out of sync with the British space time continuum.
Planning is an unnatural process - it is much more fun to do something.  The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression. [Sir John Harvey-Jones]

I wonder what would happen if we all decided not to do it one year. Would anarchy ensue? A good idea for a story, perhaps?

I was still up at 2am when the computer set itself back. Worked as a reminder for me.

If we didn't set the clocks back, there would be more deaths on the roads in the dark mornings and more electricity would be used, apparently. Of course, the fact that there are more deaths on the roads in the pitch dark afternoons and people have to turn their lights and heating on an hour earlier than they would otherwise doesn't seem to have crossed the politicians' minds. (Politicians' minds - is that an oxymoron?)

I'm going to assume you are referring to Europe/England. Bush decided to push ours back a week or two sometime in early November.

Must admit, I wondered if the clock change happened on different days in different countries, LotD. You lot have mother's day on a different day from us, too

I wish they would do away with the idea of ' British Summer Time', or daylight saving time, altogether. As you say, Paul, I'm sure the accident stats aren't much different whichever end of the day is darkest, but I would much rather have lighter evenings than lighter mornings, myself.

Politicians make easy targets but on this issue the cross-party discussions have been wide and deep ever since the first bill in 1908. There was a great debate on the matter earlier this year. See

but the bill was dropped.

You're right, Geoff. Politicians do make easy targets. Cyril Smith was particularly easy...

Like Paul I was at my computer and saw its clock change. I was waiting for my daughter to call for a lift home but she assumed I'd have gone to bed and took a taxi home - all that waiting up sober for nowt!

On the other hand I made use of the time to adjust the house clocks and my watch - the cheapest being the most time consuming [sic] to adjust. The worst was my central heating control. Even the engineers who service it on behalf of British Gas three star insurance hate it. As user friendly as a cornered tiger it resets itself at random while you are plodding through the 9 page step-by-step manual just to change the time! I have two photocopies of the manual just in case I lose the original (and a copy) and end up buying a new system!

Geoff, who always thought time is an illusion.

We didn't forget, but all of the VCRs "remembered." Of course they remembered wrong, thanks to president dip-shit, and my better half strolled around thinking it was an hour earlier than it actually was. Thankfully he figured it out in time!

President dip-shit has a lot to answer for, at home and abroad ::)

Was there a time change I missed?

Lord_of_the_Dense

Yes, last year.

But don't worry. We changed back.
