Their song 'Any Day Now' is absolutely beautiful; deeply hypnotic.  Everything else by 'em...I find pompous and unbearable ::)

I've finally sorted all my CDs out in my new place, and founds some I forgot I had, like several albums by The Paper Chase, who are a deeply sinister band...

Stay in touch! I don't mean that in a pervy way.

Interesting. That was a tad emo for my taste, but I could see myself getting into it.

Why pompous, Rev?

I'm posting another to test out our new 'simple video posting' mod. Fingers crossed...

Planning is an unnatural process - it is much more fun to do something.  The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression. [Sir John Harvey-Jones]

There's something nearly there, Ed. When I right click on the empty space I get a 'movie not loaded' message and an 'about Adobe Flash Player' option.

Ed

Yeah, thanks for letting me know, Delph, I think maybe it's the iframe portion of the youtube address that knackers it. I tried several different ways of editing it and previewing, but it's still not happy. Some things only work with certain skins, so that could have something to do with it

I just can't get on with their brand of calculated, up-lifting stadium rock  :P Guy Garvey does seem like a nice bloke, though, and he's always interesting to listen to in interviews and things.  Shame he can't make his music interesting!!!  :bleh:

Yeah, must admit I'm starting to see a certain formula at work. There's a definite tendency to have bits in each song the crowd can croon along to (Throw those curtains wide, etc.). Another thing that's starting to annoy me is the lyrics are complete bollocks. I think you can go one way or another -- you can write songs that are deep and meaningful, or you can write pop songs that don't pretend to be anything other than a bit of fun, but I think if you try to hit the middle ground with something that sounds like it should be deep and meaningful, but is in fact complete bollocks, it comes across as dishonest and pretentious.

Ah -- it does work. All you have to do is post the link to the page and the mod embeds the video :afro:

But for youtube you have to click the 'share' button and select 'long link' in the tick box, then copy and paste the longer link when it appears :afro:

Nice emotional piano piece.  :afro: I'd never heard of Liszt.

marc_chagall

Glad I could introduce him to you. He's one of my favourites.

Btw, if you're ever in the company of people who listen to classical music and you say you've never heard of Liszt, be prepared for the sound of multiple jaws dropping, as it's a bit like saying to people who are into rock 'n' roll that you've never heard of Elvis.

Apropos of nothing, I've just dropped another self indulgent video onto YouTube:
