Just wondering - a few times over the last couple of weeks I've had trouble getting this site to load.  Last night I couldn't get in at all, a few times, and had to wait a few minutes before trying again.  I sent a message to the hosts about it, but they ay everything's fine.  Anybody else having problems?

Nope, I've had no probs. getting in, anytime lately
Writing, when properly managed, (as you may be sure I think mine is) is but a different name for conversation.

Good, that's alright then - must be me again   I sometimes think technology sees me coming and decides it's going to have a laugh at my expense. ::)

Did you see that tweak I posted over at ip2p for Firefox browsers, Neuro?  It's sped my browser up a lot - they reckon it speeds it up by 10x.  And no, that's not the reason for the slow loads ;) I checked using both IE and Firefox.

CAll me a MS fanboy if you must...

I still use IE

I disabled a lot of stuff except in trusted sites.. and maintain my list carefully...

I use Firefox with no extensions for surfing crack sites but thats it.

I dont think tabbed browsing is a big deal... (I dont group taskbar buttons, and the taskbar is sizeable,  so I can make it take up a couple of lines on the desktop with no problem..)

Its just easier for me atm to use IE then try and figure out why firefox displays things screwy, and having trouble with bad extensions.  (I tried the minimize to sys tray one... got an error everytime I opened firefox, and did not know how to get rid of it :( )

Not to say I couldn't just didnot care to waste my time...

Oh, I didn't bother with any of the fancy stuff - I just use it as it came.  Don't even know what tabbed browsing is

Ah - just got an e-mail from our host

QuoteWe found a rogue site on your server that was spiking loads. It has been shut down until the owner can deal with it so you should have no more problems.

At least it's not just me imagining things :cheesy:

I had a few troubles accessing the site over the last few days, Blunt, but also assumed it was me! Can you give more info on the tweak for Firefox? I wouldn't mind speeding mind up a bit.

Yeah, it was this -

Type 'about:config'; in your address bar, hit 'enter', and then double click these things, editing the values as listed. (they're way down the page)

network.http.max-connections : 64
network.http.max-connections-per-server : 21
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server : 8
network.http.pipelining : true
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests : 100
network.http.proxy.pipelining : true

Pages will now load about 10x faster.

There's also an a techy thread here - the first page is settings for dialup, but on the second page there are a few more tweaks for broadband - http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=53650

I didn't bother with any of the stuff at the linked forum; just changed the settings listed above, and it's definitely a lot faster now :afro:

Cool!  I've changed the settings as you suggested. Already seems faster. Thanks, Blunt!  :afro:
