Personally I think that Doom 3 for the PC should be the scariest because of the bit where youre crawling through a dimly lit vent shaft and there is a skeleton at the end, and when you get near it, it launches itself over to the other side of space at the end of the vent...

Ive been past that part several times and still jump because of the same skeleton even when im expecting it...

I don't have much experience with games, but I find the flood pretty intimidating in Halo 2 and 3. There's just so many of them and they come out from all over the place, plus they're often very difficult to kill.

Planning is an unnatural process - it is much more fun to do something.  The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression. [Sir John Harvey-Jones]

OK but no offense Altered Beast was not scary at all. It was a cheap and repetitive arcade game that quickly out stayed its welcome after the first five minutes - in short I would not pay $ 5.00 for it. This post is meant for scary games - the ones that put a cold chill up our spines and makes us feel uncomfortable and confronts us with disturbing imagery.
