Interesting article, but I think the science of the test is too loose to be unequivocal. IMO a lot depends upon how good the book is. For example, if the author you're reading has a personality disorder and it's reflected in his writing, then surely that can't have psychological benefits for the reader. Likewise, reading nothing but books that feature death and depression isn't likely to have any benefit to your psyche.

Then there's the other side of the coin - it's more than likely that reading enough to score highly on the "author recognition checklist" means that you have a predisposition to read, and what's to say that same predisposition doesn't make you a more rounded person in the first place? :huh:
