...for your feedback on my latest Whittaker piece (String Theory). Must be the most entertaining feedback I've had from any judge ever. Brilliant! I'll sort out the typos, and then pop the story in the next crit group session. I agree with all your comments, but will be interested to see if others do too.

Ah, so that was your impish tale!

As the competition has progressed I try not to guess who has written the anonymous pieces. Of course I have an idea of  your own voice, and JonP, Effie, and  others, but I am often proved wrong, I am glad to say. Otherwise it would be less fair. What really caught me off guard were stories by Brock. I thought I knew her style from somewhere but ignored my instincts. Now I know she is an elderly woman writer and editor  I respect greatly. Sadly, she felt too much under pressure and thought the less than top marks meant she is a failed writer. :( Yet, she was doing better than average from a group of writers who are all good.

Best

Difficult, isn't it? It's important to always remember criticism is just one person's subjective opinion, and what one person doesn't particularly like might be loved by another, and vice versa. Easier said than done when you're on the receiving end, though. :/
Planning is an unnatural process - it is much more fun to do something.  The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression. [Sir John Harvey-Jones]
