As you probably already know, Stephen has a new book coming out in November called under the dome. What you might not know, is he started working on it 10 years ago based on a story he never finished. That story was called The Cannibals. He has put up for free download what he has of that original story at stephenking.com. Hes also put up a special site for Under the Dome where you can read an excerpt from the book, and even download a map of the town in the story at http://promo.simonandschuster.com/underthedome/22177_main.php

I have a renewed interest in King after reading Duma Key, but this reminds me of The Tommyknockers, which I wasn't very bothered about (an invisible dome/forcefield sealed the town in that story, didn't it?).  The idea's a bit stale too, but if it's ten years old that can maybe be forgiven.  I do like the suggestion that the dome is shrinking: "But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn't just short. It's running out."

Stay in touch! I don't mean that in a pervy way.

I read  the extract from 'Under The Dome' today. It's in the back of 'Just after Sunset' and I'm hooked already. Got to admit though, as soon as I started to read it I thought of 'The Tommyknockers.'

I'll check out the original story, cheers for the tip, Dragoro.
Some may say slaughtered is too strong a word...but I like the sound of it.
