Robin Hood and Friar Tuck: Zombie Killers
By Paul A Freeman
Published by Coscom Entertainment
Paperback ISBN: 978-1-926712-23-9
eBook ISBN: 978-1-926712-24-6

If you’re into zombie tales, you’ll love this book. If you’re a Robin Hood fan, you’ll love this book. If you adore Chaucer, you’ll love this book. If you’re a fan of zombie tales, Robin Hood, and Chaucer – you must have already read this book, because before Paul Freeman wrote this work, I doubt if such a fan existed. This is cross-genre writing with a vengeance. I came to it as a Chaucer fan, who remembers liking Robin Hood as a child, but who has never had much to do with zombie tales. I found in this astonishing work the spirit of Chaucer living on: immaculate iambic pentameter rhyming couplets that never falter and therefore become invisible; great wit; great storytelling; vibrant characters; fabulous drama. I also relived my childhood enjoyment of the tales of Robin Hood. I won’t give away the ending here, but will just say it’s genuinely moving and is told with authenticity and a clear love for the traditional tales of one of England’s best heroes. As for the zombies… ‘She pulled him from the gore-bespattered mound, / Where strugg’ling for his life upon the ground / His body was immobilized by hands / Which soon plucked out his guts in glist’ning strands.’ Horror fans will not be disappointed. This stuff rocks.

Wow! You've certainly made my day, Cathy!

Of course I'm hoping to pick up a few more Robin Hood fans once the new Robin Hood film's released in May - starring Russell Crowe, no less.

As for Chaucer fans, the jury's out. I've had quite a few supportive emails encouraging my Canterbury Tales project from Chaucer scholars worldwide, including Terry Jones, the Python (whose written two Chaucer-themed books). However, I've also had a couple of emails that would count as 'academic hate mail', their composers believing I should be strung up for sullying their idol's name!

Anyhow, when we put our work out there, I suppose we have to take the punches along with the applause.

Glad you liked the review  :afro:

There were two 'academic hate emails'. The best was, 'You should possibly be shot - with roach spray'.

I mean, if a university professor thinks I'm a cockroach, why can't he just call me Blaberus discoidalis.

As for your piece on Amazon, Cathy:

"I'm thrilled to see your kindly-penned review -
Much gratefulness from me to you is due.
My book of Friar Tuck and Robin Hood
Is doing well - the numbers sold quite good.
And since there'll be a movie coming out
About the outlaw soon, I have no doubt
I'll sell more books and make a little dough
Espec'ly since the film stars Russell Crowe!"

Thanks Folks

I think Cathy's review has created more interest than all my own efforts have done.

I'm putting up a bunch of new threads in forums so the folks there can have a read of the review - plus the last six lines of my little poem to hopefully put a smile on their faces.

After a crappy week at work, I needed something positive like this.

As for Terry Jones, it was nice to get encouragement from someone who's made such a mark creatively.
