What word limit would you like?

3,500
5,000

Ed

Just wondering what word limit you would like in the forthcoming CafeDoom comp. We can go up to 5000 words if we want to this time, but that's potentially a lot more to read if you're worried about being able to read all the entries, so what would you rather have -- more freedom to tell your tale, or less reading?
Planning is an unnatural process - it is much more fun to do something.  The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression. [Sir John Harvey-Jones]

I should probably mention that the winner will be paid on a word count basis, too.

Would have voted for 2000 if that was an option :)

I seem to have trouble squeezing a decent story into 2500-3500 words... I get dinged for abrupt endings all the time. Five thousand gives me some breathing room.

I like the challenge of writing something in 3500 words but I don't actually think I can do it, so my vote goes with 5000  ;)

Stay in touch! I don't mean that in a pervy way.

I write either flash or novels. I struggle with 'long short stories'

Caz

Bit of a struggle to hit 350 words at the moment so it's not much of a guess where my vote goes.
Some may say slaughtered is too strong a word...but I like the sound of it.

Ed

I'm tending toward the 5,000 limit for two reasons -- it makes the top prize more valuable, and I think it gives the story much more space to develop. The longer I spend writing, the harder I find it is to tell a story in under 10,000 words, let alone 3,500.

Hmm -- not much in it then

Pretty even on the votes so far.
