Rejecting the Editor

Here's something to cheer us all up.

The article I have in the current issue of 'Writer's Forum', I originally submitted to another writing magazine. The editor emailed back, loftily saying he had read the article and would think about it and let me know. So in the meantime, since 'thinking about it' is an open-ended deadline, I sent the article to 'Writer's Forum' where it got snapped up. immediately.

Feeling rather smug with myself, I emailed back to the editor of the first magazine and told him that while he was thinking about it, the article had got accepted elsewhere. He then sent me a face-saving email about a week later informing me that he'd thought about running my article and decided against it.

Just goes to show, editors can be as thin-skinned about rejection as the rest of us!

Writing is so subjective aint it?

Just been reading the intro to Lovecraft's Time's Shadow. HP almost gave up writing after all the rejects he had. We're all in good company.

What a loss that would have been. I don't think I personally could ever give up writing. Could probably give up submitting though, if it ever came to that.
