Many of you witnessed Woody's recent behavior in the crit group, and his subsequent demands for me to remove his 'copyrighted works' from the forum. Despite all attempts by myself and others to reason with him, he has continued to annoy, threaten and insult me via personal message. I finally had enough of it last night and, rather than ban him, which would take away all his choices, I created a new user group for him -- the 'AnnoyEd' group. The only permissions left open are the ability to edit the user's own posts, so they can edit their own posts and remove what they want of theirs (which, BTW, is and always has been an ability everybody has here), receive but not send PMs, or post on the rest of the forum. He also has the ability, as has everybody, to delete his own account.

As expected, he has finally deleted his work overnight and left messages in their place, which attempt to paint me in a bad light:

Quoteposting here has proven unwise. ed will keep your stuff after he bans you. only he knows why.

But even this is obviously erroneous, because for one, I haven't banned him, and secondly, he's free to remove all his stuff (except the attachments, which I have removed for him).

I think everybody is as surprised as I am at the way he has suddenly turned. As far as I can tell, he has received nothing but help and support from the members here. I guess it's true that no good deed goes unpunished. C'est las vie, I suppose. I have told him he is no longer welcome here.

Anyway, enough of this. I've had a gutful. Sorry for any and all inconvenience, folks. I wouldn't be surprised if things get even more crazy yet.
Planning is an unnatural process - it is much more fun to do something.  The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression. [Sir John Harvey-Jones]

odd?  I don't know.  Maybe just the way of the world.  So for now--onward and upward--
He had something to say. He said it. . . . He had summed up—he had judged. 'The horror!'

Woody had a habit of being defensive and argumentative. When I pointed out some anachronisms in his donkey story, he didn't take it gracefully. In other discussions he'd bristle and argue rather than allow that someone else might have a valid viewpoint. My observation here and on other forums is that the better a writer one is, the more gracefully one accepts criticism. Even more so, the reverse.

EDIT: I meant to say I also love the icon associated with the AnnoyEd group!  :2funny:

... this quote is not a valid viewpoint --- accept this graciously, without brisling, and youll be a better writer for it...[?]

LOL...you know...that might be my all time favorite movie hands down. I am a huge, huge, huge Monty Python fan.

It's funny because when I was a kid my mom made me watch horror films like Omen and Psycho and my dad was always into Benny Hill, the 2 Daves, and some priest that did stuff like Benny Hill.  Spectacular TV selection for a kid growing up in an age where cable was only starting up.  Thats how I found MP,  David Letterman, Twilight Zone, One Step Beyond, etc which were my staples

Sorry to hear this end the way it did. The forum and the crit group, however, will be better for it.

looks like I missed out on a nice Python quotefest--damn my necessary work schedule that keeps me from what I truly enjoy.  I guess its the "repression inherit in the system"  :pissed:

.... this is ed's www - he can do what he wants. i have every faith in him and admire his patience and level-headed ruddering. i have no idea what woody has done besides being totaly ridiculous in charging ed with wanting to steal stories. i think ed has dealt with this in the most light-handed way possible.....good on you MonkeyMan!

BUT: why kick a dog when he's down -- i have always found woody's input interessting [his points on POV are reactionary]. let him lick your perception of his wounds in peace as he considers litsite rehabilitation.

personaly, unlike phar, i think that if a writer crosses the uncertain limits of right and wrong, good conduct and moral rectitude, he/she is far better off for it -- look at me.

and if i have been churlish, i apologise.

Thanks for the props, Daniel. I try to treat people as I expect to be treated myself, that's all.

I didn't start this thread for the purpose of Woody bashing, and I'm happy to say that hasn't happened. I think what Grill means is that we couldn't have carried on the way things were going and still maintain what we have built up over the past few years. You didn't see what went on, Daniel. There are some things that are difficult to forgive. The key, I think, is to cross the limit you talk of, and then learn from it, grow -- then it's possible to be better for the experience.

...... exactly: - cross that unpinnable limit;  learn - get into good practice at being horibly bad..... it betters you!  yip-yop, ed. sometimes the most absurd ideas are so, so applicable ;) :cheesy:
