Help! My pc won't connect to the internet. I'm typing this from my antique laptop, which will connect, thus proving there's nowt wrong with the modem or phone lines or anything. I've tried swapping ethernet cables around, but the pc simply won't admit to such a thing as the internet existing at all.

Any suggestions for fixing it welcome.

Okay, panic over. Re-installed the router, and that did the trick. Don't know why it should suddenly need re-installing, but that's life. And computers.

Ah -- I see I'm too late. I was going to suggest giving it a good thrashing with a whippy stick. That'll teach the blighter a lesson

Planning is an unnatural process - it is much more fun to do something.  The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression. [Sir John Harvey-Jones]

I'll tell it that as a dire warning in case it ever decides to play up again.
