My Literary Blog
« on: June 03, 2005, 06:58:30 AM »
http://literaryadventure.blogspot.com/

Started it some six months back, forgot about it, starting it up again as a means of containing all my Flashes, and whatever else I choose to stick up there regarding literature.

Thank you :) Did that on 'authors in action' a couple of days back... someone said it read as though I was trying too hard so I'm not sure on it :(

Be assured that you will always get someone who doesn't like what you write, even when 99% of everyone else does. I teach undergrads and grads and when I get my evaluations on a scale of 1 to 5 (where 1 sucks and 5 rocks), I get 99 who give me a 5 and 1 who gives me a 1 with a nasty comment. You just can't please everyone and usually it's not about you--it's about them!  ::)

I have a writer blog too, though its unactive since I made it into a project of sorts(stranded as of yet) instead of just following my progress, maybe I should start it up again

Sharon's quite right.  Have you seen that person's writing, to know where they're coming from to make that judgement, for a start?

I'll have a look later.  (I'm working this afternoon on something that needs to be sent off for a Monday deadline.)

Sharon - thanks. Everybody else seemed to like it; it was just that one person who had some negative crit. Well, not exactly negative; just their opinion, I guess!

Don't think I read anything of theirs.. if I do, I don't remember. I should go back and have a look.

I mostly started my writing blog just to have a place where I kept a record of my progress as a writer. Not so much posting everything I wrote there; more like new forums I joined, stuff published, etc. Then life got hurled about and I didn't have the time nor energy to keep a blog...

And now I'm back! YAY!! *bounce*

Yes, do.  I've seen crits on Get Writing where somebody's been really quite scathing about a piece, when a) they've partly missed the point of it, and b) their own writing is full of mistakes.  You just have to hope the original writer has also noticed, and realized that this opinion is NOT one that needs to worry them in the slightest.

I did go back and read their attempt at the same Flash thread, and read the comments I made. There were things I picked up on that I felt were detremental to the story, and I pointed them out. I hadn't realised at the time that it was the same person who'd said that about my effort.

It was reasonably well written - there was nothing majorly wrong with it - but it wasn't of the quality I'd expect from someone who gave me the critique they did.

I agree with your thoughts on critics to a degree, but some people are better at seeing the problems in others' work than they are in their own, so be careful not to discount them too quickly. Of course, if more like it then don't, then you've nothing to worry about :afro: especially if it's the Flash I'm thinking of!

Been working on my own little lit. blog too - packed it with all my shorts (hence its name): My Shorts

They don't look anything like shorts. They don't even have legs!!

Prolly is the flash you're thinking about; the death one with the crow.  Everyone else liked it... o.o
