I have some invites I can send out to anyone that is interested in this new social format. Just PM me with an email address to send it to.

Some of my friends are going nuts for this. What makes it better than Facebook, apart from the fact it's not Facebook?

Stay in touch! I don't mean that in a pervy way.

I think its the ability to have more privacy, or something like that. Its actually slightly more complicated at first, but I'd bet that it becomes one of the new hot social media. I believe myspace is on the way out. Although, I thought the same thing about linkedin and just got an invite from Jack Ketchum a little while back, so maybe that is picking up as well.

By creating groups (called "circles") of people you know, you can control which circles are able to see which postings. Unlike Facebook, where everybody sees everything.

Ketchum, no less.  Impressive.  I have no idea what linkedin is.  I thought it was some sort of scam.  I get invites in four email addresses I use and I ignore them.  Not to be rude, I'm just clueless.

I've started using linkedin myself. It's more of a useful business contacts sort of a thing than a purely social wotsit.

I no longer use MySpace, but like facebook precisely because it's so public (I have my settings so that anyone can see everything) so I have random people chancing along and seeing my artwork and stuff like that, which has got to be a good thing. Twitter's fun too, but I mostly use that to follow a few people that everyone else follows (from Jon Pinnock to Neil Gaiman). Don't post much.

No doubt I'll be wasting time on this google thing in due course, but last I heard, so many people had sent invites, the new invitees were not able to be accommodated.

I'm in a bunch of groups over there, s he probably recognized my name from facebook and sent out a request. That is the one good thing about Linkedin, is all of the groups you can get involved with. The bad side, is that many of those groups end up being just like the Amazon forums--a place to rattle off your book link non-stop. Linkedin itself isn't is more like myspace in my opinion. Also, more professional. But a lot less used. I use it to keep contact with my old workmates.

Okay, wasn't going to do this, but I am.  ::)

I've only really dipped a toe into Facebook, never had a MySpace, didn't do Twitter, so I don't think it'll be worth it for me. I don't think Facebook is very good, though. There are a few things about it that bug me. Could be time for a change
Planning is an unnatural process - it is much more fun to do something.  The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression. [Sir John Harvey-Jones]

I remember the strong movement by writers to leave myspace to go to facebook. It was sort of an all at once thing. Myspace was and still is awful to a degree. I'm not even sure why I maintain a presence there. There isn't as strong of a push to go to google+ yet though. I think part of that actually is the lack of games.

But once options like that show up, I would bet there is a stronger push to move. Facebook is clunky now days, and you see them making a lot of changes trying to counter that possibility. Twitter is just a silly concept, and there servers are always getting overwhelmed.

So I do think google+ will replace all of them, just a matter of time. They do have all of their little free apps plugged in nicely too. Just wonder if some day they may ask for people to pay for all of these features.

Some of us enjoy Twitter, silly as it is, Oz.  :bleh:

As to Google+, I suspect I will be waiting a few months to make a decision. I'll let others iron out the kinks, thanks...

I think, Sebastian, there for I am.

To clarify, I meant silly to me alone, because I spend more time trying to figure out how to fit what I want to say into that little box, than I do posting LOL. I guess I'm too wordy.  :buck:

The thing about Google+ (and Facebook) is that they try to dominate your desktop. Twitter's great because you can run it on the side of your screen, and when you've got the BBC showing a select committee hearing with the Murdochs on the rest of your screen, it makes for a hilarious commentary.

I had a myspace for a band I used to gig with. It's still up even though we no longer do much more than the occasional house party.

I killed my facebook about a year and a half ago because it got to be a little ridiculous. With people sharing so much so often I wondered how they had time to actually live the life they were exhibiting on facebook.

I kind of regret offing it altogether though. It's nice to have some sort of online presence. I've often taken to the web in search of more info on an author if I read a story or book that I enjoy. It's a far off chance at this point, but I'd hate to have someone read one of my stories and want to look me up only to find... nothing.

I suppose a website or blog might be the better way to go for that purpose though.
