Yeah, amazing really. I've always wondered if Hitler did his research before adopting the swastika, or whether it was an oops moment when it was too late in the game to change it scratch

Nah, he did his homework... not only was he a big fan of the occult, but also of repurposing religious imagery. I think his motives were less interesting than those outlined in popular fiction ranging from RAIDERS to HELLBOY; I think he just understood the power religious symbols and sigils hold over people.
