Steve Marshall is now sending me threatening e-mails because he has been exposed.

Your attempts to slander me on your little crusade are only making you look bad. But I can start a slander campaign against ABC Tales and you if you persist. Even though I gave you the benefit of the doubt, you took the bait and ran with it, which makes your act, equally, if not more repulsive and unethical. Suggest leaving things alone and just move on. You did not fire me. I told you I would not be editor for less than $50.00 and you passed on that offer. I also have that e-mail and will post it to prove it. That is the same e-mail where you refer to Halloween in Heaven as YOUR story. Now you are admitting, finally that is is not nor was it ever your story. So you are admitting to stealing someone else's work. Thanks! I shall post this mail as well. It is very clear and abundantly blatant that you are lied to Brendan Moody when he called you on stealing someone else's story, and now you are lying and trying desperately and pathetically to try and discredit me. Not one of the authors of ABCTALES published in that anthology was published  without their consent. Each one sent me their stories for publication. And I have ALL the e-mails to prove it. Including the one you sent me of the plagiarized story.

Oh and Brendan Moody also claims you published another story at SNM Horror Magazine called Eve of Autumn that you once again stole from Ligotti's prose sketch "Autumnal."

As for fired

Post any email you want Theresa. I fired you because of your recent ransom letter. After I gave you the benefit of the doubt, you proved your true colors, so post this along with my emails. I was told that you were publishing anthologies that you were not informing authors about that they were accepted or paying them for under ABC Tales. I said "not Theresa." So I sent you one that I didn't write to see if it was true. You took the bait and published it. I have the link and the info along with what you published so you can't conveniently erase it. Deal with that! You are a fraud and I'm going to expose you for it. Clear your own damn conscience and admit to what you did. No worries, I'll do that for you to, you bogus witch.

Here is an e-mail where he calls Halloween in Heaven HIS story. When he said this, that he didn't give me permission to use it, I checked my e-mails as I NEVER delete any of them and found it...him sending me not only that story but the other to use.

He stole that story, Jeani.

I'm going to have to take a pass. It's just not that much of a priority because the poetry doesn't pay back, it's not even featured in the anthology. Holding a higher ransom for something we already agreed on is a bit of a turnoff when we're all supposed to act as a team and do it for our love of the craft. My team of fiction editors as well as Kerry have been with me for three years and haven't asked for a single payment, which is why I'm mailing them a nice Christmas bonus. You don't renegotiate established deals. Another thing: I don't remember getting asked permission to have my story Halloween in Heaven being featured in that anthology you published. The mag does not even generate revenue for me to pay anyone, it all comes out of my pocket. Anthology sales are paid royalties, that's the only thing that generates money. So go solicit more readings a gazillion times per day because this is not what we agreed. I'm out.

Hi:) I don't know if my last message went though or not so I am writing it again. If you still want me to be editor of SNM's poetry section then I simply cannot do it for less than $50.00. And if I am to work on the Jan. issue then I expect to be paid Dec. 1 BEFORE I start to work on the issue. Please let me know if this is acceptable. If it is not acceptable then you have enough time to find someone else. Take Care:) I hope all is well and I hope you understand. I don't work for free. It's all about the money now.

Whenever you were in a jam at the last minute without any recourse I helped you. My best friend even did your Occultica cover because I asked him to. And this is how you repay me. Recap:

or those of you who are unaware of the whole story regarding SNM Horror Magazine and Steve Marshall. I was the editor for a book called ABCTales.com. The book was published as a pdf file for free download and a book of 100 something pages filled with poetry, stories, flash fiction and art work. Here is the link to the beautiful book.

Steve Marshall from SNM Horror Magazine submitted two stories to me for publication consideration into this Book/Anthology that I was editing. I accepted one called Halloween in Heaven. The other story he submitted was called Souls Seeking Eternity. This was back in 2010. I still have the submission e-mail. If anyone wants a forward of it please let me know and I will gladly send it to you as proof.

Here is the e-mail where I ask him if he has anything to submit to the anthology and he answers. Read from bottom to top.

Hey T,

Did you ever read Whispers in the Dark yet? Interested to know what you think. Anyway, that one is not available because it's new and coming out in the novella around April 15th, but these 2 above are currently not published anywhere that you may find interesting. I have no new poetry, not even for the April issue, but here's 2 stories you can use.

Flash forward to 2012. Steve recently contacts me out of the blue, friending me on FB begging me to please find him some writers for the poetry section of the magazine that was due out in Oct. I had been the poetry editor of SNM awhile back and I actually helped start that section of the magazine. I graciously helped him out and found him a couple of writers like Arthur Crow, Rose Blackthorn etc...They were published in the Oct. issue.

Anytime he needed help at the last minute because he didn't have enough good writers he would come to me and my best friend even did his Occultica cover at my request because Steve didn't have anyone to do the cover of his book at the time.

Anyway, Steven then asks me if I want to be poetry editor again, because Kerry, his present poetry editor was leaving her position in Dec. He said he would pay me $30.00 if I accepted. I told him I would do it but then I thought about the amount of work that goes into that job and I asked him for $50.00 instead of the $30.00. He declined and I posted here and in a couple of other places that I would not be the upcoming poetry editor for SNM in 2013 after all.

Here is that e-mail exchange for proof. Again read from bottom to top.

Someone on FB, one of my friends, saw my post where I said I would not be the SNM Poetry Editor for Jan. afterall and messaged me telling me they were glad I did not take that position because Steve Marshall had pilfered a story from another writer.

I asked for proof and they sent me the links that a couple of the other writers have up on their FB page; the links to Brendan Moody's accusations and consequent proof that Steve pilfered this story Halloween in Heaven from another writer.

I read the two pages of links and am shocked to see that Steve Marshall has accused Doc/Dave of having sent the story out to publishers on purpose to discredit him because they did not get along due to animosity from ages ago when they once worked together on another magazine.

These are the links that explain in detail Steve Marshall of SNM Horror Magazine's plagiarism.

http://www.ligotti.net/showthread.php?t=5756

http://www.ligotti.net/showthread.php?t=5756&page=2

I KNOW for a fact that Steve Marshall's accusations regarding Doc/Dave are a lie because you see, I was the editor of ABCTales and Steve sent me his two submissions via e-mail. An e-mail that to this day I still have.
I contacted Brendan Moody and forwarded him that e-mail where Steve Marshall sent me not one but two stories for consideration. One of the stories was the pilfered Halloween in Heaven.

I also have another mail where Steve writes to me referring to Halloween in Heaven as HIS story. Therefore Steve pilfered a story from another writer and if that was not bad enough, he tried to blame this poor guy Doc/Dave for it when Brendan Moody called him on it.

Again this is the e-mail...read from bottom to top...

So, so far, he has lied to Brendan Moody about the plagiarism, blamed Doc/David for it, and now is accusing me of submitting HIS story without his permission. All e-mails show that he clearly gave me his permission, sending me the two stories for submission and he clearly states that Halloween in Heaven is HIS story.

By the way, Brendan says Steve also had another story up at SNM that was also pilfered from another writer, but the story was quickly removed when Brendan called attention to it as well. This one was called Eve of Autumn and it was stolen from Ligotti's prose sketch...Autumnal.

Needless to say I am livid. He used me all these years, lied, cheated, pilfered, and ruined reputations, including his own.

I call him on it. And he now claims that he did in fact plagiarize Halloween in Heaven but it was only because he had heard a 'rumor' that I was accepting stories for that anthology without author permission and not paying them and blah blah blah. As you can see from the previous mails...I had his permission even though he tried to backtrack and say I didn't. And I had every author's permission that appeared in that anthology as well. And I have every mail to prove it as I NEVER delete anything from my inbox.

This is the mail that proves the above.

Read from bottom to top.

Oh and he lies and says that he fired me from being poetry editor when the e-mail clearly states that I will not do it for less than $50.00 and if this is not acceptable he has ample time to find someone else.

And apart from all this, I am apparently a bogus witch:)

Laughable, I know.

So now we have an admission of guilt on Marshall's part but only because he was trying to prove a point that I was publishing works without permission and not paying writers and blah blah blah...

So I ask myself. If this is true, why did he not submit one of HIS OWN material as a test?

I was to find poetry writers for his Jan. issue, especially if no submissions were coming in as they frequently don't. I was to read and edit the work and send it to him to set on the page. I was to get the author bios, links to e-mail etc. The hardest part was to find the writers who would be willing to submit work to SNM Horror Magazine. I had always helped him out with this on other occasions and it was difficult. Aside from that, in the previous occasions that I worked for him, he always set the poetry incorrectly, often doing away with the submitted structure of the poem as is evidenced by one that he has up in the Oct. issue that I asked him to fix and he ignored me on.

There are a slew of problems with working with Steve. Most of which I do not want to get into. His own poetry editor Kerry, can tell you that. I could not and would not do it for $30.00. So I renegotiated the deal and asked for $50.00 and told him I understood if this was not acceptable and that he had ample time to find someone else. I wished him well either way and went on. As is evidenced in our e-mail exchange.

I removed it so the person involved couldn't report my profile, but I blocked him. Now, I will post it again, in case he tries to attack me in any other forum. This way, the evidence is here. I'm also keeping the email exchange.
This is a warning to avoid SNM Horror Magazine at all costs.

Context:
Stephen N Marshall plagiarised a story by Thomas Ligotti.
Thread here: http://www.ligotti.net/showthread.php?t=5756

He then attacked a friend of mine by email, threatening to bully her online unless she retracted her statements regarding his plagiarism.

I then emailed him. This is his response.

Stay the hell away from SNM magazine, as the guy at the helm (Marshall) has some very real problems.

It isn't my posting as it is the influence and circle of clique writers. This is very evident. Don't forget I helped you also when you needed it for this anthology looking though horrific poetry submissions and sending you a real gem in Arthur Crow. But that is the way these things work. It's mostly the same people, rubbing each other's backs and publishing the same people who then feel they are superior when in all reality their writing isn't quite at the level they seem to think it is.

Arthur Crow doesn't have a Bram Stoker award nor has he even been nominated for one but he can write circles around a Monica O'Rourke or Matt. And I dare say, so can I.

Dear Theresa,

Due to your recent posting and subsequent comments, the decision has been made to remove you from inclusion in the Eulogies II Anthology and the Eulogies II Facebook page.  We're very sorry to have to take this step, however your posting reflects poorly on the Anthology, which affects the editors, the authors, and the project as a whole.

Sincerely,

This doesn't really belong in the soap box section, so I am moving it to the Hell section. I hope you don't mind.
Planning is an unnatural process - it is much more fun to do something.  The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression. [Sir John Harvey-Jones]
