Read plenty of his books back in my schooldays. Wasn't a fan in later years, but still a great influence.
"If you want to write, write it. That's the first rule. And send it in, and send it in to someone who can publish it or get it published. Don't send it to me. Don't show it to your spouse, or your significant other, or your parents, or somebody. They're not going to publish it."

I met him at FantasyCon last year - a shy man, who did his signings, bit of a chat and then he left via a patio door of the Conference hotel rather than the front door. Most writers stay for at least one night so as to imbibe the drinks their fans buy all night! Kudos to his dramatic writing skills even though, like you, Del, I'd mainly read his early works.

He didn't look like a well man at the WHC in Brighton, whenever that was. I wasn't a fan of his writing, but plenty liked it, so he must have been doing something right.

R.I.P. Mr Herbert :reaper:
Planning is an unnatural process - it is much more fun to do something.  The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression. [Sir John Harvey-Jones]
