I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this. Anyone have any advice?

Max is observing the carnage taking place in the city as he flies over it. The darkness taking over the world had been pretending to go into remission, now all hell has broken loose.

"The streets were frying up a big hell omelet. Whatever happened at that press conference had popped the demons' yokes and scrambled the masses like chopped meat."

Should I use yolk or yoke? One has to be better than the other, but I'm not sure how to tell. Are there rules about this?

I'm trying to think of an onion pun as well.

There are no rules, but 'yolk' is wittier in context, so that's the one I'd go for.
