The Roman Emperor Vespasian. I've a feeling I've made him look more benign than perhaps he really was.

I enjoy drawing portraits from classical statues, as I get the impression the best of them (the statues) are very accurate representations of what the people really looked like. I 'colour' them buy giving them eyes and hair, but otherwise leave them pretty much as the sculptor intended - though it's possible the statues were originally painted anyway, so maybe my drawings look more like the original statues than modern photos do. Who knows.
