:afro:  Must be doing something right with the metatags

I've noticed CafeDoom is now ranking 19th in the Google 'Top' writing resources sites for horror

http://www.google.com/Top/Arts/Writers_Resources/Fiction/Horror/

Weird, huh?  I suppose 19th sounds like a low figure, but when you consider the millions upon millions of websites out there, it's a miracle we even made it onto the list

Anyway - I thought the others on the list might be worth a browse for us.  There are a few that list markets for horror :afro:

It'll be interesting to see if we creep up the list when the new site goes online

Thanks, Joyce

Must admit I was surprised to see us ranked so highly.  Certainly spurs me to make the new site as good as it can be

What new site? Did I miss something

That's excellent. Well done!
I'm sure with the new layout and the addition of pod-casting, etc., it will only climb higher on the list, too.

Apparently, yes :afro:  I'm currently building a new website for us, which will have RSS news feeds, podcasts, etc., and will be fully searchable/crawlable, have tons of metatags - should result in better exposure for us

Thanks, everybody

I didn't post this to get praise, or anything - I was just pleased and surprised to see us up there :afro:

You deserve the praise, anyway.  You're very quick to say the site wouldn't work without those of us who post here regularly.  Well, we couldn't do that without somewhere to post, and that's YOUR doing.

Mega congrats for your Meta tags, Bluntman

I can get the phrase Geoff Nelder high in Google (though there are two of us - probably distantly related & we do have a laugh at each other's crossed wires) but not the phrase "Escaping Reality".  Any ideas?

Ta, Geoff

There are several things you can try.

Add the words to your keywords tag - early in the string, because the majority of search engines only recognise the first few characters (I think it's the first 50 or so).

Also (I expect you've done this already) have the words as a clickable header on your front page and put a short blurb containing the words there too.

Stick a link (using those words) in your signature and go on a posting spree around different forums.

Try to get a few other websites to host a link to "Escaping Reality", preferably on their front page, or if not, in their links section.

Other tips include the use of site maps, robots text files, properly indexing your site contents, getting your 'doctype' tags right.  One of the best is to use xtml for your site, instead of html.

There are a few articles out there that tell you how to improve your google rankings.  If I remember a good one, I'll post the link for you :afro:
