i think it's fine to have a prompt, but maybe make it so it's not vital to use the prompt?

Ed

  Yeah, I see what you're saying, Grin.  Thanks for the thought.  The only problem I foresee is that it might be difficult to pick a winner from such a wide spectrum of entries.  For instance, we could get an excellent literary yarn about suicide vs a ripping good, pure genre, zombie tale.  You couldn't compare the two on a level that would be fair to both.  Both fine, but chalk and cheese.

Must think this over and get it resolved - only four days left to decide, really.
Planning is an unnatural process - it is much more fun to do something.  The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression. [Sir John Harvey-Jones]

I'm up for doing the illustration for the T-Shirt if you need an artist. I'll do it for free... well... I would like a T-Shirt for doing it I guess. Just let me know. You've seen some of my work. Think it might be what your looking for?

Sorry, Paul - I missed your post before :/  I'd love to see what you come up with :afro:  A T-shirt in payment seems like a good deal to me

Unless you're going to have a very narrow criterion such as 'a pure genre zombie tale' (and I for one would have NO idea what that was), I think this problem is bound to crop up.  If judging is done by voting, then the majority would have it, as in our Front Page and Doom Flash Challenges.   If that was the preferred method, the running result of the poll could be kept hidden, and just the result be announced at the end.  If you anticipate loads of entries, making it not sensible for you, Blunt, to be judge, you could reserve the right to oversee the poll in case of tactical voting by incomers we'd never see again, or in case of a draw, to a have a casting vote.  (Just thought, if you want to enter, you couldn't be the one judge, but anyway, you see the point...)

Any other ideas, anyone?

Ed

True.  Perhaps I worry too much

I won't enter any of my own prize competitions, BTW - I don't think it would be ethical to do so.  The voting will only ever be used as a guide, and the final decision will always have to be at my discretion, otherwise the voting could be rigged and a shopping list could (in theory) win.

LOL - okay, here's my entry.  Bananas, ibuprofen, armagnac, broccoli, AAA batteries.  How'd I do?!
