Coincidences Gerald. I ran the RM User Group for North West UK schools for 11 years and ran workshops at the Cheshire Micro Unit for them.  On a 2-year secondment from the Chester school I worked at, I used to go round Cheshire schools to teach teachers how to use their computers. At least 30% of them had not changed the default passwords for Admin on the RM Networks. In those days 1980s - 90s RM network security was ahead of Microsoft's and in some ways it still is. Generally we used to find that the badly behaved RM networks were those with System Managers that put their own "touch" on them!

At my own school, one of the pupils became such a cunning hacker I made him the deputy Network Manager. He was able to install packages on the net that RM said were impossible. After his engineering degree he went to work for RM, designing and engineering smart stuff into Primary network servers on the assumption that primary schools had no one above 10 years of age that understood computers! He was headhunted by another company in Nottingham where he now lives. He's my son.

Isn't he the one they made the movie about? The one where he created a worm and stole money that was rounded up in bank transactions? You should be a zillionaire!!

Wow, Geoff! Since RM moved to Community Connect 3, with XP workstations, the system has been so much more reliable. The latest big thing is Interactive Whiteboards at the front of classes, which has got even die-hard computer phobic teachers  enthusiastic. RM still have their little foibles, but the system responds to mantra I've adopted - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That's a bit strange, Chris. I can see it with Firefox.

Maybe you should download IE - try here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.mspx, and follow the link to the download centre.

Or check your system status by clicking on start : All Programs : Accessories : System Tools : Security Center, and you can download updates from there.

thanks, I'll try the second thing.  I have IE, but it won't work, if I use it I have to type the address into the browser, I think it got mad when I quit using it...it hasn't worked for a long time.
Thanks for the quick reply!

If you search on the site for something like 'wmf patch' or 'wmf vulnerability' you will find the single download, Chris
Planning is an unnatural process - it is much more fun to do something.  The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression. [Sir John Harvey-Jones]
