Yep - I'd say that was one of the drawbacks with sending in a bit at a time - Even though I only sent a few in myself, I found that there were bits I wanted to go back and change, to provide background for things that happened later.  Stuff like that.  Still a good idea, though.  I would have liked to have kept it up and finished it on time.
Planning is an unnatural process - it is much more fun to do something.  The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression. [Sir John Harvey-Jones]

I'm not convinced that making it a competition is a good idea, for that reason. Those who have already written their novels have an advantage, since theirs is the finished article, and obviously reads better than us who are making it up as we go along  :( I like the idea, though - the support and encouragement for writers writing novels is a great idea.  :afro:

Maybe next time Debs could make it compulsory to send in a certain number of chapters at a time, and then give the contestants a chance to make alterations at the end, before the manuscripts go to the readers.  That would make for a lot of work for the readers, all in one hit, but it might be a bit fairer, and the readers would get to read the finished article in one sitting (ish), rather than a very rough first draft in dribs and drabs.  Difficult thing to organise, that's for sure
