I must say, after reading this thread, I'm glad I don't have time to get around the web anymore. I focus on CD, send my measly chapters to NAY, and that's about it. I don't think I'm missing much. All the good folks seem to be here!

Oo. they are, Sharon, they are. With the huge proliferation of online writing groups of all flavours, it would be all too easy to spend hours and hours on the fringes of writing, without having to actually do any of the stuff. I know some people like chit-chatting and talking about the weather and what they had for lunch yesterday (fine and cold, and avocado on home-made bread, if you must know), but writing groups should be there for supporting people's writing. I think a lot of these places go down because they have clashes of egos, coupled with members who enjoy stirring up trouble. Obviously, they have nothing better to do

Yes, the Internet can be dangerously populated by some crazies - and several of us here have encountered some. But MOST of the writers here, at BeWrite, the Yahoo forums and the odd subscription site I belong to seem to be warm friendly human beings.

And now, after that subtle reminder from Gerald, I should get back to writing...

All true.  I really should get on with writing a story for the next crit week and, by the time it comes along, there'll be one less distraction on the Internet.
Planning is an unnatural process - it is much more fun to do something.  The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression. [Sir John Harvey-Jones]
